Global law firm networks still have an image problem with some clients in Latin America, who struggle to see how they serve their needs. Lulu Rumsey reports on how networks are changing to counter this perception issue and align themselves with what clients want

Ask any managing partner of a firm that is a member of a global network why that arrangement is important, and they will promptly refer you to the vast global footprint it hands them, at no loss of independence. They will say it is a relatively cheap way of gaining referrals, and some may point to training or process improvement which makes them more efficient, and more profitable. Few will say that clients love the fact they are members.
